Dr. Sabnam Shakya is a board-certified, fellowship-trained physician specializing in pulmonary and critical care medicine. She has extensive expertise in diagnosing and managing complex respiratory conditions and critically ill patients, while maintaining a strong commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.

Dr. Shakya completed her critical care medicine fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York and her pulmonary fellowship at Harlem Hospital Center in New York, where she served as Chief Fellow. She also held the position of Chief Resident during her internal medicine residency at Harlem Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences in Dhulikhel, Nepal.

Dr. Shakya’s clinical and academic interests include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, interstitial lung disease (ILD), lung nodules, and lung cancer. Dr. Shakya is dedicated to advancing evidence-based care and improving health outcomes through quality improvement initiatives. Her leadership in initiatives such as Project RED—designed to reduce hospital readmissions for COPD and heart failure patients—as well as her involvement in lung nodule management programs, reflects her passion for innovation and patient-centered care.

Dr. Shakya is an active member of the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST), and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Her scholarly contributions include publications in respected peer-reviewed journals such as CHEST, reflecting her commitment to the advancement of pulmonary and critical care research.

Fluent in English, Hindi and Nepali, Dr. Shakya is dedicated to providing inclusive and empathetic care to patients from all backgrounds. Her goal is to help every patient breathe easier, feel supported, and live a healthier, more fulfilling life.
