Dr. Richard Amara is a board certified, fellowship trained cardiac electrophysiologist. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmias through advanced techniques, including ablation of atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), ventricular tachycardia, AV node ablation, and cardioneuroablation. Dr. Amara has extensive experience in Watchman left atrial appendage occlusion device implantation for patients with atrial fibrillation who cannot tolerate anticoagulation. His device expertise includes implantation of pacemakers (including conduction system and single and dual chamber leadless) as well as subcutaneous and traditional defibrillators. He also performs lead extraction using both laser and mechanical techniques.

Dr. Amara completed fellowship training in cardiovascular medicine and cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, New York and received his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
