Donald Haas, MD

Dr. Donald Haas is board certified in cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology, with more than 20 years of clinical experience. His career has centered on building programs that bring advanced treatments, clinical research, and specialized heart care closer to local communities.

He earned his medical degree from New York University. He completed his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, and fellowship training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, New York. He also holds a Master of Public Health from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Before joining Capital Health, Dr. Haas was medical director of Jefferson Abington Hospital’s Comprehensive Heart Failure and Mechanical Circulatory Support/Ventricular Assist Device programs and research director at the Toll Cardiovascular Institute. He has founded or led at least 14 cardiovascular programs and major initiatives, including cardiac amyloidosis, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, community heart failure, hospice, and shared care for patients with implanted heart pumps. An investigator in at least 49 studies and clinical trials, he has authored or coauthored 48 peer-reviewed publications and more than 40 national scientific abstracts and presentations.

A decorated United States Navy physician and fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Dr. Haas has received awards for research, innovation, leadership, and collaboration with nurses, alongside repeated Castle Connolly and Philadelphia magazine Top Doctor recognitions. His goal is working with patients to put their heart failure where it belongs: in the medical chart, not at the center of their lives.
